The Welcome Flow

The Welcome Flow is the first impression new subscribers get from your store. When someone signs up - usually through your pop-up - this flow greets them and delivers their welcome discount, encouraging that important first purchase.

What it does

The Welcome Flow is triggered when a valid email is entered in a pop-up or email field. It then sends a short series of welcome emails, spaced out by the delays you can see in Triggers & Funnel. The emails include the welcome discount code, shown as a WELCOME-{DYNAMIC} placeholder in the preview - each subscriber receives their own unique code.

Subscribers are removed from the flow once they place an order (so they stop receiving welcome nudges after they've bought).

To change the welcome discount amount or the timing of the emails, see How Wiz discounts work and Editing send delays & timing.

The "Only send to new contacts" setting

The Welcome Flow has one setting the other flows don't: an Only send to new contacts checkbox in the Triggers & Funnel section.

The Only send to new contacts checkbox in Triggers & Funnel

This controls what happens when someone who has already been through the Welcome Flow signs up again - for example, an existing subscriber who re-enters their email through the pop-up:

  • Checked - only genuinely new contacts get the welcome emails. People who've received them before won't get them again.
  • Unchecked - anyone who signs up enters the flow, even if they've been welcomed before.

Tick this box if you want to make sure existing subscribers don't receive duplicate welcome emails when they re-sign up.

Common questions

Where is the welcome discount set?

The discount amount comes from the Max Discount you chose during setup, and the code lives in your Shopify Discounts. To change it, see How Wiz discounts work - and remember to update the discount wording in the emails and pop-up too.

How many welcome emails are there, and how are they timed?

Wiz generates a short series (typically the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Welcome Email). You can see and adjust each email's delay in Triggers & Funnel - see Editing send delays & timing.

Can I turn off one of the welcome emails?

Yes - use the menu next to any email. See Turning individual emails on or off.
