How flows work

When you set up Wiz, it builds a complete set of automated email flows for your store - each one designed to reach customers at the right moment and turn browsing into sales. This article explains what the flows are, how they're organized, and how to read the Flow Editor.

You'll find everything on the Flow Editor page (open Wiz → Flow Editor in your Shopify admin).

The flows Wiz builds for you

Wiz generates five base flows, plus your pop-up, all matched to your branding and products:

Flow

What it does

Welcome Flow

Welcomes new subscribers and delivers the welcome discount

Browse Abandonment

Follows up when someone views products but doesn't add to cart

Abandoned Checkout

Recovers shoppers who start checkout but don't complete it

Thank You

Follows up after a purchase

Winback

Re-engages customers who haven't bought in a while

The Pop-up is also managed from this page. It has its own articles - see How the pop-up works.

How the page is organized

The Flow Editor has two main parts:

The Flow Selector (left) lists every flow. Each flow is a group that expands to show the individual emails inside it - for example, the Welcome Flow contains the 1st Welcome Email, 2nd Welcome Email, and so on. Click a flow to expand or collapse it.

The preview panel (right) shows the email you've selected. It displays the From address, Subject Line, and Preview Text, followed by the fully rendered email exactly as your customer will see it.

Triggers & Funnel

Below the selector, the Triggers & Funnel section explains how the currently selected flow behaves:

  • When contacts are added to the flow (for example, when a valid email is entered in a pop-up or email field).
  • When contacts are removed (for example, once they place an order).
  • The delay before each email sends - such as On trigger for the first email, then 48 hours from previous for the next.

You can adjust these delays yourself - see Editing send delays & timing.

Understanding the status badges

Each flow shows a count like 2 of 3, meaning how many of its emails are currently on. Each individual email carries a status badge:

Badge

Meaning

Pending Activation

The flow hasn't been switched on yet - no emails are sending

Active (green)

The email is on and sending automatically

Inactive (orange)

The email has been turned off individually

Active and Inactive email badges in the Flow Selector

When you first land on the Flow Editor, everything shows Pending Activation - nothing sends until you activate your system. See Activating your emails for that one-click step. After activation, emails show as Active, and you can turn individual ones off whenever you like - see Turning individual emails on or off.

Common questions

Why isn't anything sending yet?

On a brand-new store, every email starts as Pending Activation. You need to click Activate once to switch the whole system on. See Activating your emails.

Can I change which emails are in a flow?

You can turn individual emails on or off, and adjust their timing, but the set of emails in each flow is generated by Wiz. To rebuild your flows from scratch, see Regenerating your flows.

Where do I edit the actual email design?

Select an email, then use the Edit menu on the preview panel - Edit Email Template opens the full editor.
