Pop-up triggers & display rules

Wiz decides when to show your pop-up using a set of display triggers and suppression rules built on email-marketing best practices. This article explains those rules, how to change them, and - the most common question - why you might not see your own pop-up.

You'll find these settings in the Flow Editor: expand Pop-up, then look at the Pop-up - Triggers & Funnel section below the preview.

The Pop-up Triggers & Funnel rules, editable with the pencil icon

When the pop-up shows

By default, a visitor sees the pop-up when any of these happen:

  • They scroll 60% of the page.
  • Exit intent is detected (they move to leave the page).
  • They spend 30 seconds on the same page.

The scroll percentage and the time-on-page value are defaults you can adjust. Click the pencil icon on the rules card to change them.

When the pop-up is suppressed

To avoid nagging visitors, Wiz will not show the pop-up if:

  • The visitor closed it within the last 30 days, or
  • They already submitted the form, or
  • They're already identified as subscribed.

These rules are what keep the pop-up from reappearing to people who've already seen or acted on it.

"Why don't I see my own pop-up?"

This is the most common question, and it's almost always one of the rules above working as intended. Run through this checklist:

  1. Is the Wiz app embed enabled? The pop-up can only appear on your storefront if the Wiz app embed is turned on in your Shopify theme. This is set up during onboarding - if you're not sure, confirm it's enabled and saved. See Setting up Wiz.

Enabling the Wiz app embed in your Shopify theme

  1. Have you already closed it? If you dismissed the pop-up in the last 30 days on that browser, it won't show again during that window.
  2. Have you already signed up? If your email is already subscribed, or you submitted the form before, you're suppressed by design.
  3. Are you on an excluded page? Check whether the page is in your excluded URLs - see Excluding pages from the pop-up.

Tip: To test the pop-up as a brand-new visitor, use a private/incognito window (or a different browser). That clears the "closed within 30 days" and "already submitted" state so the triggers fire fresh.

Common questions

Can I make the pop-up show faster?

Yes - click the pencil on the Triggers & Funnel card and lower the scroll percentage or the time-on-page value.

Can I show it more than once to the same person?

The 30-day suppression after a visitor closes it is there to protect their experience. Visitors who submitted or are already subscribed won't see it again either.

It works in incognito but not in my normal browser.

That's expected - your normal browser remembers that you already closed or submitted the pop-up.
