Plain text campaigns

Not every campaign needs a designed template. With Plain text, you write your own email from scratch in a simple rich text editor - no AI generation, no product blocks, just your words. It's great for personal, letter-style emails from the founder, quick announcements, or any message where a clean text email feels more genuine than a designed one.

You still get light formatting (bold, italics, lists, links, images) and personalization tags, and the email sends through Wiz like any other campaign.

Start a plain text campaign

In Campaigns, click Create Campaign, choose Plain text, and click Continue.

The Create Campaign dialog with Plain text selected

You land in the Campaign Editor with an empty body, ready for you to write.

Write your email

Set up the top of the campaign just like any other - choose your audience, write your subject and preview text, and check the From address.

Then write your email in the body. The toolbar gives you everything you need:

  • Paragraph styles and headings
  • Bold, italic, and underline
  • Text alignment
  • Bulleted and numbered lists
  • Links and images
  • Personalization tags - insert a contact's first or last name, and the unsubscribe link (see below)

Every campaign must give recipients a way to opt out, so Wiz requires an unsubscribe link in every plain text email. If one isn't there, the campaign won't send - you'll be prompted in the app to add it before you can schedule or send.

Add it from the personalization tags button in the toolbar: click it and choose Unsubscribe. Wiz drops in an unsubscribe link that's unique to each recipient.

Why this is enforced: an unsubscribe link is a legal requirement for marketing email and it protects your sender reputation. Wiz adds it automatically to its designed emails; in a plain text email you place it yourself, so we check it's there before sending.

Put it wherever fits your email - most people add a short line at the very bottom, for example "No longer want these emails? Unsubscribe." with the unsubscribe tag on the last word.

Send it

Once your unsubscribe link is in, you can Send test, Save draft, or Schedule the campaign - the same as any other. See Scheduling & sending.

Common questions

Why won't my plain text campaign send?

The most common reason is a missing unsubscribe link. Every plain text email needs one - add it from the personalization tags button and try again.

Where do I add the unsubscribe link?

Click the personalization tags button in the editor toolbar and choose Unsubscribe. You can place it anywhere in the email; the bottom is the usual spot.

Can I add images to a plain text email?

Yes - the editor supports images and links. If you want a fully designed, template-style email instead, start a campaign with Generate with AI or Start from template.

Can I still personalize a plain text email?

Yes - use the personalization tags for the recipient's first and last name.
